It was a relatively quiet day in markets yesterday with many investors feeling like they may have dodged a bullet from some potential pitfalls. With US markets closed, traders were wary of volatile moves in thin markets, but the major risk events all came through as expected.
The pound enjoyed a very quiet day as UK election results are coming in very close to expectation with a resounding Labour victory. The dollar drifted lower on the day taking the Yen away from historical levels and Oil and Gold both held on to recent gains.
It looks like being a quiet start to the day with the first two trading sessions lacking any notable events on the calendar, however that is likely to change swiftly once New York reopens after its holiday with the key employment data out early in the day in what is likely to be extended holiday market conditions.
